PIXAR’s A Bug’s Life (Flack’s Review)
Posted on | October 26, 2009 | 3 Comments
This movie is about Flik, an ant who makes inventions but nobody likes them. He and the other ants are forced to get food for the grasshoppers. When the grasshoppers come for food and Flik knocks over a pile of the food, the grasshoppers get mad. The ant colony orders Flik to go to the city so he won’t mess up the food anymore. When Flik goes to the city, he sees a group of circus bugs (not knowing they are circus bugs). He thinks they are warrior bugs because he sees them “acting” out Robin Hood. He wants the warrior bugs to fight the grasshoppers. He brings them back to ant Island with him.
I thought the movie was funny at the end when Heimlich, the caterpillar, got wings but the other bugs had to lift him up because he wasn’t really a butterfly, just a caterpillar with wings.
My favorite character is Heimlich because he is funny. Trivia from Pixar Wiki: Heimlich is based on Eric Carle’s hungry caterpillar.

Where the Wild Things Are (Flack’s Review)
Posted on | October 19, 2009 | 1 Comment
The story is about a boy, Max. After his snow fort is destroyed he gets very upset and runs to a forest, then sails to a place where he meets the wild things.

He meets all the wild things; Carol, K.W., Douglas, Alexander, Judith and Ira. My mom says the movie deals with many of the different emotions a kid can feel. I think maybe the director made each wild thing be one of those emotions; jealousy, anger, fear…
My favorite character in the movie is Max because he usually thinks of good things to do when the wild things get angry.
My favorite part in the movie is when Max learns who all the wild things are and what they do.

Where the Wild Things Are (Flick’s Review)

The movie (based the book Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak) is about a boy called Max who sails in a boat off to where the wild things live because he is very mad (adult themes). He gets to be king. I will leave the rest of what happens as a surprise. But if you really like the book and the pictures alot and do not want them to change in your head you may not want to see the movie.
My favorite character in the book was the wild thing in the striped shirt but in the movie this wild thing (called Carol) is kind of violent and angry sometimes so it’s not my favorite in the movie.
My favorite part in the movie is when all the wild things get their jobs from Max to build the great big fort.

I think this movie is for kids who are not scared of movies like The Spiderwick Chronicles. If you are scared of movies like this you may want to skip it and wait for the DVD so you can fast forward past the scary parts.

PIXARPEDIA: A Complete Guide To The World of Pixar… And Beyond!

We love PIXAR and everything about them and we love how DK books pack a whole bunch of interesting details and photos into their books. If you are a PIXAR fan you’ll want to read this new book, PIXARPEDIA from publisher Dorling Kindersley (DK). It has stuff about all the films and shorts in order of when they were made including the voices, storyboards, the characters and it tells you how long it takes to make a PIXAR movie.
We have been studying the book and then quizzing our parents (and grandparents) on PIXAR trivia on car trips. And we are planning to re-watch old PIXAR films.
Spike Jonze Directs Mischief, ‘Wild Things’

We are getting really excited for the film version of one of our favorite books, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. The movie opens Friday, October 16, 2009.
We listened to director Spike Jonze talk about the process of making the movie, creating the Wild Things characters and finding the boy to play Max with one of my mom’s favorite people, Terri Gross. My mom says she has a really cool talk show called Fresh Air on NPR.

If you like Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2 you will really want to see these movies on the big screen as a double-feature in 3-D!

I like the Toy Story movies because I love PIXAR films. I think PIXAR makes the best animation in movies. I like the story because it is about toys and I love watching them go on adventures. The new 3-D effect make everything in the movie even more exciting.
My favorite character in the Toy Story series is Woody because he’s funny and I love watching him ride Bullseye.
My favorite scene in Toy Story 1 is towards the end when Woody and Buzz use the remote control car to try and get back to Andy. My favorite scene in Toy Story 2 is when Buzz and Woody ride Bullseye and try to rescue Jesse.
I think it is definitely worth catching this movie at the theater and I hope both movies come out in a 3-D DVD boxed set with 3-D glasses!

I love these movies! I think if little kids like Toy Story 1 & 2 and like adventure stories they will definitely like it in 3-D.The action parts in the movie are especially cool. I love how bright the colors were on the big screen and I love seeing the toys so big. My favorite character is Buzz Lightyear because I love science fiction and I think space rangers are cool and to make a toy come to life with firing lasers is doubly cool.

Fun trivia: During the toy meeting in the beginning of Toy Story 1, you can see books on Andy’s bookshelf behind Woody. The names on the book spines are names of PIXAR shorts. Find more trivia here.
