Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland (Ethan’s Review)
Posted on | March 7, 2010 | 1 Comment
The movie begins when Alice is young and she’s with her Dad and has a bad dream about Wonderland. Thirteen years later her Dad is gone and she goes to a party where a boy asks her to marry him. The boys mom takes her for a walk and she sees a rabbit and then Alice runs off and falls down a rabbit hole. There she meets all the characters from before like the Red Queen, White Queen, Tweedledee, Tweedledum, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the Door Mouse, the Cheshire Cat and also meets new characters like the Bandersnatch, Jabberwocky and the Knave of Hearts.
My favorite character is the Mad Hatter because he is very funny and because he is as mad as a hatter.
My favorite part is the end battle when Alice fights the Jabberwocky and the Mad Hatter fights the Knave of Hearts, and all the Red Queens cards fight all the White Queen’s card.
I wanted to see it 3-D, but we didn’t because at the time we went at 1:30, it wasn’t playing in 3-D.
Rated PG for fantasy action/violence involving scary images and situations, and for a smoking caterpillar.
My rating is PG-13 for the same reasons.
Ethan’s Rating: 5 out of 5

This movie is about Alice who falls down a Rabbit Hole into Underland. Where she meets the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, a smoking Catepillar, a Red Queen, a White Queen, a fire breathing dragon and other strange creatures. She must battle through Underland in this action comedy fantasy, based on the original Lewis Carol books Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass.
My favorite character is the Mad Hatter, because he is funny.

My favorite part is when Alice fights the Jabberwocky because it’s action.
I rate this movie PG for fantasy violence, scary sequences, and oddness.
Rated PG for fantasy action/violence involving scary images and situations, and for a smoking caterpillar.
I did not see it in 3-D, although I wish I had.

Oscar nominations: good ones and fantastic ones!!!
Posted on | February 3, 2010 | 1 Comment

This years’ Oscar nominations were surprising; The Secret of Kells, UP, Princess and the Frog, Coraline, and the one I hope wins, Fantastic Mr. Fox are the animation nominations.

Some other good nominations are Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince for best cinematography. Star Trek for makeup, sound editing, and visual effects. Meryl Streep was nominated for Julie and Julia for best actress in a leading role. George Clooney got a nomination for best actor in a leading role in Up in the Air. He was also Fantastic Mr. Fox in Fantastic Mr. Fox. Up in the Air was also nominated for best picture, best director, two actresses in a supporting role, and adapted screen play. UP also got nominations in addition to best animated film for best original screnplay, original score, sound editing and most surprising best picture! Avatar got nominations for best picture, director, art direction, cinematography, film editing, original score, sound editing, sound mixing, and visual effects. Sherlock Holmes got nominated for art direction and original score.

I wish I could see Julie & Julia, Up in the Air, Avatar, Star Trek, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and most of all Sherlock Holmes. I think they are appropriate for me except my parents do not agree.

In the Providence Journal I read an article about the Oscars. It said instead of five best picture nominations there will be ten this year. But they said only five will really matter. Read the article here.
The full list of nominees for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be announced on February 2nd.

Listen to Bob Mondello (a film critic) and Michele Norris (interviewer on NPR) discuss who deserves the Oscar for best actor here. Is it the actor or the computer animators who digitialise the character? I think it’s hard to choose because they are all doing alot of work.
Up and Fox are tough to beat

Fantastic Mr. Fox: (Dylan’s Review)
Posted on | November 30, 2009 | 1 Comment

This movie is about two foxes. The wife is about to be pregnant. When she gets her son, Ash he feels different than everyone else. When Mr. Fox steals food from the three nastiest farmers on earth it will take him, his family, Kylie (his sidekick), Badger, his nephew Kristofferson and the rest of the animal families to save themselves from Boggis, Bunce, and Bean.
My favorite character is fantastic Mr. Fox because he is funny and he comes up with good ideas to save his family. I like when he says, “Dig” to his family to get away from the farmers.
My favorite part of the movie is when they go the supermarket because it made me hungry. I liked how all the food looked.
I liked the music in the movie because it was like Peter and the Wolf. Each animal had a different instrument. For example you hear the banjo when Mr. Fox comes around.
Listen to the fantastic Fantastic Mr. Fox soundtrack.

I rate this movie PG for action violence, mild language, romance, and moments of conversations about exploding things. This movie is not really scary - it's more that there are alot of explosions and just some stuff kids would not understand. Some kids may find this movie boring or not very interesting or some of it too adult or violent for them. Not me, I loved it!
See my brother’s review here.
